COLLEGE FOOTBALL – AFTER WEEK 7 GAMES

“STOCK UP/DOWN/JURY STILL OUT TEAMS OF WEEK”
STOCK UP TEAM OF WEEK
1). BOISE STATE OFFENSE: Ok folks at times during year you can’t just use the entire season stats as often injuries (especially to a starting QB or other key star players) can play a factor in bad stats and once the studs/stars return the old stats are really now meaningless. In my pick here this week it’s all about a QB change and a new Offensive Coordinator change as in the case of Boise State the transfer out of former #1 QB Bachmeier and in comes new QB Green along with former NFL HC Dirk Koetter to start calling the plays. In two weeks (2 games) with this new duo the Offense has produced 450 and 443 total yards. They ran for over 300 rush yards on San Diego State’s Defense (something not done in seems like decades). They have found a solid new identity running the ball with the new QB and play calling and have rushed for over 300 rushing yards back to back games. The Offensive Line is better suited for this play calling and it shows as the Offense has scored 70 points in the last 6 quarters combined. They play 5 of their last 6 games vs. teams with Defenses in the bottom half of all CFB Defenses (69, 78. 81, 90, 91) and with more seasoning each week this Offense should just get better and better. Throw out the stats for first 4 games as it’s not the same Offense, not even close.
STOCK DOWN TEAM OF THE WEEK
1). OKLAHOMA STATE: This team was rolling and looking like a (6-0) start was there in their grasp with a (24-7) lead over TCU. Then the wheels kinda fell off as the toll of the Defense (see my FATIGUE/TIRED LEGS articles) hit home and hit home hard. After being on field for an insane (104) plays two weeks ago, they ended up with (83) last week vs. TCU and the game went to Overtime, making the tired legs even worse off. This Oklahoma State Defense has now been on field for (187) plays the past two weeks and (257) the past 3 weeks. Any team at this point in the season (6-7 games under their belt) is likely to start feeling the “Injury bug”. It’s starting to rear it’s ugly head for the Cowboys as QB Sanders is really banged up (bad shoulder), starting WR Bray missed last week with lingering hand injury (two weeks ago he was 0-4 in contested balls thrown his way – he normally catches those – proving his injury is bad), starting Center Wilson missed last week and then more bad news as the backup Center Russ had to leave the TCU game injured. The RUN GAME clearly suffered with the Loss of Center-Wilson and not just run blocking, but on snaps back to Sanders. There were multiple really bad snaps back to Sanders last week. I am a huge Off/Def Line guy and the Offensive Line is the one position it’s super costly to lose players, especially the Center.
Also CB’s Jones and Black may be out so injuries to key starters now piling up. HC Gundy won’t tip his hand if Sanders will start or sit to rest the injured shoulder this week, but the Vegas line of Texas (-1) going to now (-6) tells you it’s very likely Sanders isn’t going to play vs. Texas on Saturday. Last year Okie State had the 5th Best Defense in the country. Now they sit a putrid (#109) Defense in the country. OUCH! New DC calling plays, less depth, and now injuries taking a huge toll on an already thin and really tired Defense and then you add in the “BUBBLE BURST” as well with their first loss, and even moreso how they lost (big lead and lose undefeated season in OT) and you have an easy STOCK DOWN pick here for the week.
