COLLEGE FOOTBALL “STOCK UP/STOCK DOWN” TEAMS PLUS LOTS OF OTHER GREAT NUGGETS
(10-24-22) ~ AFTER CFB WEEK 8 GAMES
“STOCK UP TEAMS”
1). LSU – I honestly never imagined ever placing this team into this section this season. But the QB Daniels has made possibly the biggest rise and it’s clear he know understands the system. Add in that in CFB today “the LEGS” of many supreme athletes playing QB can be an asset that can carry a team to great success (if he can stay healthy…lol). The Defense isn’t elite but the Offense is now looking like a Wake Forest type and able to pile points up and simply outscore opponents on any and every given week.
2). OREGON OFFENSE: I just watched this Offense have their way with my UCLA boyz and it was a clinic with having moving parts it seems on every single play and then team speed, solid elite players and a QB (Nix) who may be the most improved player in the country. You can throw out the Game 1 blowout loss to Georgia and their powerhouse as it may have taken a few games to click but now the Offense is so in sync I am shocked when they don’t score. Scoring 70, 41, 44, 45, 49, and 45 points last week vs. UCLA and you can see it’s unlikely anyone not named Georgia is slowing this juggernaut Offensive Unit the rest of the way.
3). BUFFALO (NO not the Bills) UNIV.: I am not one that really spends tons of time on a MAC school. But this team is red hot and playing fantastic football and I love the job HC Linquist is doing. It’s a very bad Conference overall but he is “flying under the radar” and is now set up for his next opponent (@ Ohio Univ) for what looks like the winner takes all and wins it’s Division as they should win out if they can beat Ohio on Nov. 1st, 2022. Last week they fell behind first place Toledo (10-0) after first 20 minutes…but they stayed true to the schemes and dominated the fourth quarter (24-0) to upset Toledo by a TD and covering as a (+7 1/2) point Underdog. They should be a Dog against Ohio as well. They are definitely deserving of a “STOCK UP” team this week here in this weekly article.
4). WYOMING: To start this season nobody got whacked as hard as they did to the transfer portal. It looked like doom and a really bad season on the horizon. But not shockingly having one of the most under rated Head Coaches (C. Bohl) in CFB, they didn’t let that happen. In fact right now they are only wins over some very bad teams (Hawaii and Colorado State) away from a gigantic matchup vs. first place Boise State in 3 weeks and for likely the Division crown and they play Boise State at Home (4-1) this year. This team was expected to come in last or close to it, yet they are competing for a possible Div. crown. Plain and simple HC Bohl should be the HC at a TOP 25 school. Head Coaching matters so much and so many of these HC’s with big names flat out suck. I’d love to see what this guy would do with a roster loaded with elite talent.
MOST UNDER RATED HEAD COACH IN CFB (AND MAYBE EVER) – OKLAHOMA STATE HC MIKE GUNDY
You never hear his name as elite, yet all he does he find ways to win games and stay near top of Big 12 for decades now. His team is banged up, QB barely able to walk after game two weeks ago….he goes into last week’s game as a near TD Underdog to a very improved Texas team and he goes out and scratches and claws his way to a huge win to and bounce back off a heartbreaking OT loss to TCU the week before. In a “bubble burst” game he got his troops fired up and won a game most thought they’d lose. Last year he had a elite Defense. This year calling it “average” is being nice. This guy is cool as a cucumber and it rubs off on his team. His players play hard for him but it’s clear he knows how to Coach. It’s nearly impossible to hop TCU so no likely CFB Playoff, but a Sugar or Cotton Bowl is in their reach still and winning out rest of way won’t shock me. They will keep flying “under the radar” as TCU will be the talk of the news and that’s perfect for Gundy and his Orange Gang.
“STOCK DOWN TEAMS”
1). MIAMI-FLA.: This team is now a “JOKE”. Last guy same as new guy. Big name who can’t win. A team that is as undisciplined as I’ve watched all season. They caught Duke off a heartbreaking loss to rival North Carolina and at Home and got bombed. Miami had 8 turnovers. EIGHT F’n TURNOVERS folks. This team plays in the weakest ass Division ever and they can’t even compete vs. lesser talented teams, let alone win the Division Title that was on a silver platter to start the season. Same ole “THE U” – or as many now call it the “THE F.U.”
2). MINNESOTA: Here is another example of a team I never expected to post in this section this season as the Defense was so good the Offense didn’t need to do all that much. But they now are simply crashing and burning. I am always looking to see how teams perform off their “bubble burst” game (first loss of season) and for the Gophers it’s been they have complete “no showed” not the first game, but now 3 straight games. The once Top 3 Defense has now allowed Illinois weak Offense and Penn State Offense, 479 and 472 total yards, the past 2 weeks. The star QB is hurt and the OL isn’t getting the push it was in the first month to help the run game. Look folks it’s possible they run the table the rest of the way as they have 5 very winnable games to finish the season. But right now this is a sinking ship that even worse off from a betting standpoint will still get respect from bookmakers and you will overpay for damaged goods. Pass them as this is just a really bad turn of events and no way morale is what it was in first month of season.
3). BYU: Another shocker I am putting this team here as I love the HC Sitani but wow the wheels have fallen off and they can’t seem to compete at a serious winning level. The Defense is now one of worst I’ve watched. Allowing lots yards is one thing but missing double digits tackles per game means you don’t have solid talent. They have lost 3 straight games, allowed 496, 644, and 547 total yards with the 547 coming to Liberty (also outscore 38-0 the final 3 quarters) and to me that’s a screaming sign these kids have quit. They will now need a miracle to just get a Bowl game as they are likely (at the way they are playing) to lose 3 of the final four games remaining. This BYU team is a complete “SELL” the rest of the way as I can’t see them getting pumped for a low tier Bowl game and (1-3) finish is in the cards. High hopes to start the season will turn into the Titantic by season’s end here in Provo.
TWO MOST OVER RATED HEAD COACHES
1). TEXAS A+M Head Coach Jimbo Fisher: Yes he won a National Title. But then Ned Yost (worst MLB all time) also won a MLB Title too. Fisher to me has always gotten too much talk as some “great” Head Coach. He isn’t and now it’s rearing his true colors as Top 5 recruiting classed and loaded elite talent and all he does is play below expectations. All the ESPN talking heads say is “A+M Top 5” recruiting classes. Never this guy sucks as a Head Coach. Wyoming HC Bohl would be vying for a National Title. Fisher is vying for another bad season in Aggie land. They now lost 3 straight games (two vs. Miss State and S. Caro) and really the win over Arkansas was a complete “luck out” as Arky fumbled at 1 going in to take 21-7 lead and that 98 yard return for a TD changed game and kept many thinking this A+M team was better than they are. Smoke and mirrors baby as this team is “WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE” (GARBAGE)! Now 3 starting Offensive Lineman are OUT the rest of the season adding to the losing woes and not sure how a team that opened with CFB Playoff dreams are now looking at the “KRISPY KREME CUPCAKE BOWL” only ahead comes out fired up rest of way. Not a Stock Down team, more of a STOCK DONE team.
2). MISSISSIPPI STATE Head Coach Mike Leach: I actually like this guy as a person as he is a “weird but funny as Hell dude”. But blessed with one of the Best Passing QB’s Rogers (and a tough runner too) he simply can’t get the job done week to week. Two straight losses (both on Road where he is now a Road Show JOKE) and this vaunted Offense (only 293 total yards vs. Bama while amazingly running 87 (yes eighty freakin’ seven) plays. Two weeks ago only 225 total yards Offense to Kentucky. It’s clear folks that little sheet of paper with the 4 plays on it is NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT working and is not some thing of “genius” like the talking heads tell you …. like every stinkin’ minute. Leach’s underperforming bunch will surely lose to Georgia and at Ole Miss so at best (7-5) finish in the end. Whoopty do….thanks for coming again and doing nothing special. No reason to look to bet “ON” this team or Mr. 4 Plays on the smallest Play sheet ever made guy. Bottom line is another smoke and mirrors cartoon character who is one to “don’t try this (bet ON) at Home Head Coach”.
QUIETLY FLYING UNDER RADAR AND HOW I HAVE NO IDEA:
#1). OHIO STATE: It’s almost like nobody even remembers they are still a Top 4 team. But wow this team is loaded and even overcoming weekly key injuries and they still blowing the doors off everyone.
#2). OREGON STATE @ HOME – LIGHTS OUT MONEY! I am a fan of the HC Smith and man does he now possess a gigantic Home Field advantage. He doesn’t have the elite horses but he gets the most out of what he has. At home = SHOW ME THE MONEY EVERYTIME.
WEIRDEST JEKYLL and HYDE TEAM IN CFB: EAST CAROLINA – It’s probably best to Not look to bet “ON” or “AGAINST” this team as they are so unpredictable from one week to the next.
BACK IN THE LOOP?
FRESNO STATE: Injury to stud QB could’ve derailed the season but they are well coached and still competing hard.
TIP MY HAT AWARD (While eating some crow):
STANFORD: Two weeks ago I claimed it might be end of regime time for HC Shaw. Team was playing lackluster. No emotion. Talent level thin. Three weeks ago after I called them “DOA” they lose a heartbreaker on final play 28-27 to a good Oregon State team. Then out of nowhere they muster up some savvy character and go beat Notre Dame and Arizona State. Now the Offense still is bad, and both wins by 1 point. But it’s like HC Shaw told me “F U Greene…..my kids won’t ever quit”. In turn I simply tip my cap to Shaw.
LOVE THESE TWO NEW HEAD COACHING HIRES:
TEXAS TECH HC MAGUIRE and DUKE HC ELKO. Both came into tough spots but they have their kids playing hard full 60 mins each week and competing and winning too albeit a bit short on loaded rosters. These two are more or less winning due to “strong structure/good X and O’s and the kid buying in fully”. I love to see teams in same spots as them bounce right off the mat off tough losses (some heartbreaking) and show that last week is in the rear view mirror and this week is a “BRAND NEW- LIVE” week and one they again will play hard every play to the final gun.
GOD BLESS EVEN THE DREGS
With so many absolutely horrible teams, and the schedule Gods coming to the rescue, each week we see two really awful teams play each other. The great news is one has to win. Hence teams that could be O’fer (0 wins) teams are actually grabbing multiple wins and in end it’s nice to see. We hate to see any team lose week after week after week. Congrats to U-Conn and Colorado State coming up wins after being placed on Life Support.
Hope everyone enjoyed this article and learned some key things but also got a few good laughs too. Betting can be a soul crusher at times over a long season to many folks and so you have to at least fun time to laugh at little. Well on Monday anyway as tomorrow I am back to serious business and no more joking around. I am “ON-FIRE” and totally in the zone again this season and ready to have a gigantic finish to the CFB Season and the NFL as well. Let’s keep making big money and crushing the Sportsbooks.
Have a safe and WINNING new week ahead. And go (my) Phillies….wow….just wow….so exciting….finally.
