DON’T LOOK FOR A TEAM RANKED UNDER “TOP 6” TO WIN THE CFB PLAYOFF TITLE!
Usually a brand new season in College Football means hope for every team to possibly win the National Championship. In truth this is true but in reality no team ranked under #6 has ever hoisted the Golden Trophy at the end of the season. So if you have a favorite team ranked not in Top 6, well sorry to likely burst your bubble with this article.
The wildest fact may be that the #1 team has only lifted the trophy once, the 2017 Alabama team. The leader has been the #3 thru #6 group as they have won 5 of the 8 College Football Playoffs.
Alabama has made all the Playoffs but one, with Clemson making it 6 of the 8. Ohio State has appeared in 2 of the last 3 and 4 in the 8 years of the CFB Playoff existence.
There is a funny movie quote: “So you are saying I have a chance”? I always crack up hearing that quote. But once again, sadly, the cream always rises to the top in CFB and the fact that no team ranked under #6 has won a Title proves that.
If this trend continues in 2022-23 season that means that Alabama (+300), Ohio State (+350), Georgia (+475), Clemson (+800), Texas A+M (+2,500) and Notre Dame (+5,000) are the group that will end up with the Title Trophy being hoisted.
I think it’s safe to say we can eliminate Notre Dame. I have them losing at least 2 games and that likely will keep them out of the Playoff.
Can Georgia pull a back to back (repeat) this season? They surely have the talent and will be playing without that terrible burden of “never winning one” after last year’s remarkable Title win. They reloaded with a top recruiting class and have a QB Stetson Bennett who I think will only get better. I don’t see them winning it all again though. I expect a great season and very likely a trip to another Playoff.
Can A+M beat Alabama for second straight season? Whoa Nellie that’s a daunting task and one I don’t foresee happening a second year in a row.
Now Clemson had what many felt was a disaster season last year after being a Playoff team so often. The team really though had one problem and that was at QB. They finished last season really strong and I fully believe they will have a much better Offense in 2022-23. They to me are the somewhat sleeper team if the Offense can simply return to the glory years prior to last season’s Offensive struggles.
In end though I feel this is a two team race, led by the two teams ranked #1 and #2. Alabama and Ohio State simply are loaded and to me will be possibly fielding their best teams possibly in many years. Ohio State may have the most loaded Offense in the country, with Bama a close second.
So who wins it all? I have to side with Alabama as this season they will field a very much improved Offensive Line and easily the best secondary in the nation. I would be surprised to see more then one game by either where they don’t light up the scoreboard for at least 40 points in a game.
In the end, except for a handful of teams, no “you don’t really have a chance”. Sorry folks but the playing field itself all these teams play on may be the exact same, but the talent gap is NOT.
Enjoy the new College Football season.
